SkewMond has earned recognition by assisting Team BDS Academy in securing victories at EMEA Masters 2024 Summer and the French League (LFL) 2024 Summer Playoffs. He will make his LEC first appearance at the LEC Winter 2025 in January.

Moreover, Labrov has also joined G2 Esports in 2025 as their support player. Known for his proficiency with hook characters like Nautilus, Alistar, and Thresh, Labrov has previously competed in the LEC with Team Vitality and Team BDS. His continuous playoff appearances in 2024, including Winter, Spring, and Summer, demonstrate his potential and athleticism.

With Labrov’s and SkewMond’s signings, G2 Esports has officially disbanded its highly successful team, which included BrokenBlade, Yike, Caps, Hans Sama, and Mikyx. This intimidating team, formed in 2023, reigned over the LEC for two years, achieving four successive championships at LEC Winter, Spring, Summer, and Season Finals in 2024.

A high ban rate for a League of Legends champion typically indicates that they are overpowered and require ⁣nerfing by Riot Games. However, one champion ‍with a high ban rate is not nearly as broken as Skarner.

Stats site u.gg reveals that Shaco is the second most banned champion in⁣ Patch 14.8, following Skarner. Skarner has a ban rate of 32.7 percent, while Shaco’s is 31⁢ percent. Skarner’s high⁣ ban rate is expected⁤ due to their dominance in Summoner’s Rift since their rework.‌ Once Skarner gets ahead, it’s difficult to stop‍ them. ‌Skarner is set to ⁤receive a new set of nerfs in Patch 14.9.

Riot has not made any changes to Shaco’s ‌kit since Patch 14.4, and his win⁣ rate is approximately 50 percent. This should ⁤suggest a well-balanced champion, yet players continue to ban him. It’s likely that players ban Shaco frequently because they find him difficult ⁢to play against. Shaco has stealth and gap close⁣ abilities, strong CC in the form of fear from his jacks, and burst ⁤potential if he gets ahead. The Sweeping Lens is the best counter when playing against him, as it helps locate his boxes and Shaco himself after he uses Deceive.

Shaco’s high ban rate does not necessarily mean⁣ he is⁢ broken. Rather,⁤ players find him‍ challenging to handle. Shaco has a strong early game and can easily ⁣punish any mispositioned squishy champion. However, if he fails, he struggles. His jungle clear speed is ⁢relatively slow, and as a support, he only offers CC. To counter Shaco, it’s recommended to get your sweepers and focus on your positioning.

Clayton “CaptainFlowers”⁣ Raines, a‍ renowned shoutcaster for League of Legends, has announced via social media that he will not be part of this year’s Mid-Season Invitational broadcast. Despite receiving an invitation to cover the event, CaptainFlowers has chosen to decline.

CaptainFlowers has attributed his decision to his ongoing struggles with ⁤his sleep schedule. Given that the MSI will take place in Chengdu, China, requiring extensive air travel‍ and a three-week commitment, he expressed concerns about risking his sleep ‍and⁢ overall health by traveling across the globe.

Another factor‌ influencing his decision is his allergy to ‌soy, a common ingredient in Chinese cuisine. He recalled past difficulties with his ⁤soy allergy during the Worlds 2023 event in Korea. He expressed concerns about the challenges of managing his allergy in a foreign country where‍ he doesn’t speak or read the ‍language.

CaptainFlowers‍ also stated ⁢that he will not be creating any content related to MSI and will be taking a break for the entire month of May, resuming his work with the start of the LCS Summer Split in June. He apologized to his fans for any disappointment and assured them that his colleagues will deliver an exceptional performance at the event.

Riot Games has yet to announce the full lineup of on-air talent for the 2024 Mid-Season Invitational, which is set to kick off on Wednesday, May 1.
In a surprising turn of events, esteemed League of⁤ Legends eSports commentator, Clayton “CaptainFlowers” Raines, announced his ‍decision ⁢to withdraw from broadcasting at the forthcoming 2024 Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) ‌tournament⁢ due ‍to health-related concerns. The decision came as a shock ⁣to many, exacerbated by the excitement surrounding⁣ the upcoming‌ event, which features the highest-ranked League of Legends⁢ teams from all around the world.

CaptainFlowers has⁤ been a cornerstone of⁢ the League of Legends eSports⁢ casting community ‌since his‌ debut in 2016. His energetic style and unparalleled knowledge of the game⁤ have earned him legions of‌ followers and a sterling reputation within ⁣and out of the community. The news of him stepping down from casting MSI 2024 comes as a major blow to the event’s projected ⁣audience, who have grown accustomed to his iconic commentating during major ⁣tournaments.

White-knuckled ‌team fights and exhilarating⁤ Baron steals have been mixed with his humorous commentary to give viewers a truly immersive and enjoyable ⁤viewing experience. Fans worldwide have also praised his unabridged enthusiasm that adds an extra ⁤spark to the ‍intense⁤ moments, ‌making him a fan-favorite ⁣personality in eSports.

CaptainFlowers recently ⁣took to social media to share news about ‍his health issues. Although no detailed information was given to maintain his privacy, the decision of stepping down for health ⁤reasons is no small matter ⁣and is‌ respected by the eSports community. Fans and colleagues expressed their full support and well wishes, emphasizing ⁢the importance of prioritizing one’s health over career obligations.

Riot Games,⁤ the developer of⁤ League of Legends and organizer of⁢ the MSI 2024, also issued a ‍statement‌ expressing‌ their understanding of CaptainFlowers’ decision. Commenting on his ‌absence from the tournament, they commended his invaluable ⁢contribution to the eSports community and stressed the importance of him taking the necessary time to‍ focus on his health.

While the MSI 2024 ‍tournament will certainly feel different without CaptainFlowers’ distinctive commentating style, ⁤the focus⁤ now is towards offering support during this difficult time. The ⁢eSports ⁢community is universally known for‍ fans rallying around their favorite players and casters, and in light of this news, many‌ are wishing for CaptainFlowers’ speedy recovery in the hopes of seeing his ‌return to the caster desk in the future.

In concluding,⁤ CaptainFlowers’⁣ absence from MSI ‌2024 will undoubtedly be noticed amongst League of ‌Legends⁢ fans,‍ but his decision to prioritize his⁤ health is a lesson to us⁢ all, with the ⁢gaming setup easily becoming a major part of one’s life.⁤ It serves as a striking reminder that ⁣sometimes we need to pause, take a step⁣ back, and ensure⁤ our wellbeing is not compromised. ⁢We extend our well wishes to CaptainFlowers and eagerly look forward to ⁤his triumphant return.

After weeks of speculation, the upcoming League of Legends Assassin Nafiri is just around the corner. To celebrate the new hero, Riot Games released an exciting trailer that got players excited about her portrayal.

On June 21st, Riot announced the release of a title cinematic from Naafiri that will give you goosebumps. Without spoiling your first impression, I can tell you that Riot gave us a brief glimpse of Naafiri’s silhouette, but the real highlight of the trailer is her ravenous dog and unrelenting need to hunt.

Trailer will be out soon, Fans pouring into League em> subreddit to discuss Easter eggs and share your excitement about how awesome this Darkin Assassin looks.

“I shit” pants, this is awesome, can’t believe the previous monsters were Lilia, Yuumi, and shit lol,” said one player.

“OMG this is so cool, the animation is absolutely top notch. “One of the best championship cutscenes ever,” added another player.

But League players didn’t stop there Just days before Naafiri’s full reveal became available for players to test on the PBE servers, the community shared their thoughts on what to expect from Naafiri’s outfit:

“Hype from hell I bet the mechanics of the whole pack Most likely it has something to do with it” “She’ll spot the enemy and probably send out her pack to spot the enemy and apply some CC or slow them down or something. She seems to be merging with them as well,” said a player.

Naafiri will have a unique assassin mechanic that we will have in the League</em See > never seen before, and according to Riot, it’s designed to make their gear and gameplay feel “more alive, alive, and cleaner.” But it’s safe to say that this mechanic is as relevant as following her every step of the way.

Personally, I would love to see Naafiri blend with her hounds. Even though Naafiri lives to hunt, the most intriguing part of the trailer , at least to me, is her saying that even the victim has a choice – either run or make a last stand. Hopefully this will show up in the game and we’ll see how their enemies’ choices affect their gameplay.

Naafiri’s exact release date remains to be seen, but I think you can expect it to be any day, as cutscenes and champion reveals are usually only a few days apart.

21 teams submit applications for LCK franchising

As revealed this Thursday, 21 teams have submitted their applications to become one of the franchised teams in the League of Legends Champions Korea (LCK) in 2021 season.

LCK have announced their intentions to franchise the league for 2021 season in April when the league organisers also welcomed all esports organisations who wish to become a part of LCK to send in their applications. With this announcement, LCK became set to join League of Legends European Championship (LEC), League of Legends Championship Series (LCS) and League of Legends Pro League (LPL) as the final major franchised LoL esports league.

The final chance for teams from Korea and abroad to become a part of a top-tier franchised league ushered 21 teams to apply for the spot and while the initial reports suggested NRG and FaZe would both apply and try to earn their spot in the LCK, it was later unveiled both have pulled out of the race. As revealed this Thursday, 21 companies have applied for the LCK franchised spot, 19 of which are from Korea, while only two hail from overseas – Gamer Republic Inc. and Omaken Esports.

Shockingly, the 2019 League of Legends World Championship attendees Griffin, who recently suffered relegation to Korean's second division – League of Legends Challengers Korea (CK) decided to not apply for the spot and are not one of the 21 applicants.

Griffin have gone through quite a turbulent period after the 2019 Worlds, due to internal conflicts that arose following the allegations of managerial misconduct and corruption. This eventually led to the departure of star players, who found their homes elsewhere. Despite the brand name, Griffin failed to live up to their expectations throughout the LCK Spring 2020, which eventually saw them drop into the LCK Summer promotion series where they lost to SANDBOX Gaming and got relegated into CK.

As of now, the value of LCK franchised spot is still a mystery, however, the number is likely somewhere in tens of millions, considering LCS franchised spot costs about US $35 million – amount payd for Echo Fox’s spot by Kroenke Sports & Entertainment (Evil Genuises).

The full list of applicants is as follows:

  • Afreeca Freecs
  • Awesome Spear
  • Brion Company
  • Damwon Gaming
  • DragonX
  • Element Mystic
  • ESC Shane
  • Gamer Republic, Inc
  • Gen.G
  • Hanwha Life
  • Jin Air Green Wings
  • KT Rolster
  • Omaken Sports
  • OZ Gaming
  • RunAway
  • Sandbox Gaming
  • SeolHaeOne Prince
  • T1
  • Team Dynamics
  • WDG
  • World Game Star

The list includes all 10 current LCK teams and seven CK teams, with the only exception being aforementioned Griffin. The general consensus in the esports community is that this list is rather short, considering both LEC and LCS drew in over 100 applicants when they decided to franchise their leagues.

Additionally, it's weird to see the absence of Western teams, considering how popular LCK is not only in Korea but in the west as well, with reportedly 62% of the viewership stemming from overseas. As revealed NRG and FaZe both signed letters of intent in a bid to extend their reach into Asia, but have seemingly moved away for a yet unknown reason.

CR4ZY announce their entry into League of Legends

A Croatian esports organisation CR4ZY announced the establishment of their own League of Legends roster, which will compete in the seventh season of Esports Balkan League (EBL).

CR4ZY, a prominent esports organisation, mostly known for their Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Dota2 teams have announced their entry into the League of Legends competitive scene with a new European roster. With this move, CR4ZY will continue building their recognition as one of the biggest esports organisation in the region.

"The new chapter for us has just started," read the announcement on their official website.

"We are proud to announce that we will be competing in the League of Legends in the summer split. That also means that we are welcoming amazing new players into the org."

Representing CR4ZY's new League of Legends team will be top laner Gabriel “Gabbo” Olivieri, jungler Aleksa “DoubleAiM” Stanković, mid laner Török “Meight” Máté, ADC Miljan “Plox” Mandić and support Oskar “Raxxo” Bazydło. As their coach, CR4ZY assigned former Italian pro player Thomas "Phoma" Kifle.

Gabbo began his LoL esports career in September 2015 with nFerno eSports and later played for ExAequo, iDomina eSports, 5 Hydra Esport, Team Forge, QLASH Academy, Adriatic Wolves, Morning Stars and most recently joined YDN Gamers in January 2020. With YD Gamers, the Italian top laner won PG Nationals 2020 Spring regular season and playoffs, helping his team reach European Masters 2020 Spring, where YD Gamers failed to deliver and finished 13th-16th. Despite the lack of success of his team, Gabbo showed a lot of promise with strong performances and a versatile champion pool.

DoubleAim was first seen in the LoL competitive scene in December 2015, when he played for MantraW. The Serbian jungler later played for Vaevictis eSports, Natus Vincere.CIS, ASUS ROG ELITE, Greek Regenesis, We Love Gaming, Crvena Zvezda, Greek Regenesis and eMonkeyz. Most recently, he was seen competing under We Love Gaming's banner where he enjoyed his second stint between March and May 2020.

Although DoubleAim has never before competed in the highest tier of LoL competition, he has accumulated an impressive portfolio of accolades. With Crvena Zvezda, he won EBL Season 5, secured a silver medal in ESL SEE Championship Season 9 with ASUS ROG ELITE, won Greek Legends League (GLL) 2019 Winter Playoffs with Greek Regenesis and in March won GLL 2020 Spring Playoffs with We Love Gaming.

Mid laner Meight began his LoL career in July 2017 and is one of the least experienced players of the new team. Nevertheless, his career achievements are just as impressive as that of his new teammates. Throughout his career, Meight played for WiLD MultiGaming, Horizon Reapers, Crvena Zvezda and most recently for Wonder Stag e-Sports. With Crvena Zvezda, Meight won EBL Season 5 with DoubleAim and in March finished second in EBL Season 6. Most recently, he also helped  Wonder Stag e-Sports win Magyar Nemzeti E-sport Bajnokság (MNEB) Season 2 Regular Season and reach the grand finals of MNEB playoffs, where his team lost to Team Plague.

Like Meight, ADC Plox began his League of Legends career in 2017 and has since played for x25 Esports and Crvena Zvezda. Throughout his career, he already played with both DoubleAim and Meight with whom he should have a preestablished synergy. His career-best achievement came in August 2019, when Plox helped Crvena Zvezda win EBL Season 5 Playoffs.

Raxxo is joining CR4ZY's as the most experienced player of the newly established League of Legends roster. The Polish support started his LoL career in September 2014 with Sample Text and has since played for a dozen teams, including RoX, Vaevictis eSports, TDX Gaming, Pompa Team, Elements Pro Gaming, Panathinaikos AC, The Largest Salary, R-SIXTEAM, Different Dimension, Rogue EC, Greek Regenesis and K1CK eSports Club (now known as K1CK Neosurf).

With K1CK Neosurf, Raxxo had a very successful start of 2020 season. He claimed a second-place finish at Ultraliga Season 3 regular season and playoffs, helped K1CK Neosurf qualify through EM 2020 Spring Play-In and eventually made it to the finals of European Masters 2020 Spring, where he suffered a devastating 0-3 loss to LDLC.

CR4ZY will make their debut in the EBL Season 7, which is slated to kick off on Monday, June 22. EBL will feature eight LoL teams who will compete for one of two spots leading to EM 2020 Summer.

Fenfen joins eStar ahead of LPL Summer Split

Huang "Fenfen" Chen has become the newest member of League of Legends Pro League (LPL) team eStar, the Chinese esports organisation announced this Saturday.

During their maiden season in the LPL, eStar did not need long to establish their dominance with exceptional performances throughout the early stages of the Spring Split. The league newcomers quickly climbed the ladder and solidified themselves as one of the best League of Legends teams in China.

Throughout the group stage, eStar picked up wins against the reigning world champions FunPlus Phoenix and Invictus Gaming, however, slowed down in the latter stages of the season and eventually finished fifth with an 11-5 record. In the playoffs, eStar suffered an unfortunate loss against Team WE (1-3) in the first round and had to settle with a seventh-eighth place finish, which is still a remarkable achievement for this rookie team.

Looking forward, eStar will look to build on that success and improve in the Summer Split, albeit with a slightly different roster. On Wednesday, May 27, eStar announced the departure of mid laner Yuan "Cryin" Cheng-Wei, who left for Royal Never Give Up. Throughout the Spring Split, Cryin established himself as one of the best mid laners in the league. He ended the split with some of the best marks in his position, including 6.27 KDA (highest), 77.1% KPAR (third-highest) and 23-1% GS (second-highest).

Due to Cryin's impressive showings, his departure did not come as a shock to anyone, however, it did spark a heated debate about who will fill in his shoes. Many speculations started to surface, connecting numerous Chinese mid laners with eStar, however, all the rumours died out this Saturday, when eStar unveiled Fenfen as their new starting mid laner for the LPL Summer Split.

Fenfen will join eStar as the most experienced player of the roster, which is mostly assembled from rookies, who made their maiden appearance in LPL this past split. Fenfen began his League of Legends career in April 2016 with Tan Chi Sa Gaming where he played for four months. After Tan Chi Sa Gaming disbanded in August 2016, Fenfen spent 11 months as a free agent, before joining Suning in June 2017.

In the months that followed Fenfen played for Snake Esports, LNG Esports and most recently LGD Esports, with whom he finished 2020 LPL Spring Split at 15th place with a 7-9 record. This marked Fenfen's worst LPL placement after a 12th place finishes with Snake Esports in LPL 2019 Spring and seventh-place finish with LNG in 2019 LPL Summer.

Although Fenfen failed to put up any outstanding numbers throughout the 2020 LPL Spring Split, his mediocre 3.6 KDA was overshadowed by his 78.1% KPAR (highest amongst mid laners) and 23% GS (third-highest), which indicates the 21-year-old mid laner has the potential to grow and become one of elite Chinese LoL players.

Fenfen failed to achieve any notable results throughout his career, nonetheless, that does not necessarily mean he will underperform in his new team. Numerous times before we have seen an underperforming player switch into a higher gear when he joined a team that suited his playstyle and perhaps, eStar has the right mix of players that will enable Fenfen to break out of his shell and prove he is one of the best laners in the scene.

LPL will resume on Friday, June 5 with the opening fixtures of the Summer Split.

Huni reportedly acquired by Evil Geniuses

Evil Geniuses have reportedly signed the former world champion Heo "Huni" Seung-hoon from Dignitas ahead of the 2020 League of Legends Championship Series (LCS) Summer Split.

The reports surfaced this Wednesday, unveiling Huni will leave Dignitas and will continue his illustrious League of Legends career at Evil Geniuses. The rumours about a possible transfer already surfaced in late April, when it was unveiled Huni is not listed on Dignitas’ roster.

The exact details about the contract are yet unknown, but Huni will likely have to settle for less compensation compared to US $2.3 million he received when the Korean top laner signed a two-year contract with Dignitas in October 2019.

If the rumours prove to be true, Huni will replace Colin “Kumo” Zhao, who has arrived at Evil Geniuses in November, after spending two years with Cloud9 organisation. Additionally, if Huni joins EG, he would be the fourth import player in the North American esports organisation, alongside mid laner Daniele "Jiizuke" di Mauro, ADC Bae "Bang" Jun-sik, and academy mid laner Ahmad “Giyuu” Charif.

Since no LCS team can have more than two import players in their organisation, EG will have to reshuffle their starting roster to oblige with the rules. It's also worth noting that EG's jungler Dennis "Svenskeren" Johnsen, while Danish, is an American resident and does not count as an import.

Although there were high expectations put on Huni to deliver in his maiden season with Dignitas, the Korean top laner failed to live up to the expectations. In his lone split with Dignitas, Huni finished at an underwhelming seventh place in the LCS 2020 Spring Split, after his team lost the tiebreaker match for the sixth spot against Golden Guardians and with that lost a chance to make it into the playoffs.

Throughout the split, Dignitas accumulated an 8-10 record and a 44% win rate. Although the team has shown some promise in the early stages of the split, Dignitas started to fall apart halfway through the season. Huni ended the split with some of the worst marks out of all top laners in the league, including 1.96 KDA (lowest), 2.75 deaths per game (third-highest), 7.75 CSPM, 55.7% KPAR and only 13.9% KS.

Evil Geniuses, on the other side, had a very successful run in their maiden appearance in the LCS. Jiizuke and the company finished the regular season as runners-up with a 10-8 record and even made some serious noise in the playoffs. In round one, EG defeated FlyQuest (3-1), lost to Cloud9 (1-3) in the second round and ended up suffering a shock 1-3 loss against FlyQuest in the third round, thus finished the 2020 LCS Spring Split at third place.

EG's top laner Kumo had a fairly volatile season, showing a fair amount of instability with his performances. Nevertheless, Kumo has finished the season with slightly better marks compared to his supposed replacement. The Chinese top laner finished the split with 2.43 KDA, 2.58 deaths per game, 7.59 CSPM, 52.7% KPAR and 21.1% KS.

While reports stated that Huni'd deal with Evil Geniuses is completed, the Dignitas' CEO Michael Prindiville stated that Huni's arrival to EG is not a guaranteed deal.

"It’s straightforward. Whatever report you read was incorrect. Not a guaranteed deal," said Mr Prindiville in a Twitter post.

Evil Genuises' first match in the 2020 Spring Split is slated for June 12, when they will meet with 100 Thieves.

Tarzan and WADID leave Griffin

Jungler Lee "Tarzan" Seung-yong and support Kim "WADID" Bae-in have left the former League of Legends Champions Korea (LCK) champions Griffin, the South Korean esports organisation announced today.

The announcements of Tarzan's and WADID's departure comes on the heels of Griffin's disappointing performance through LCK 2020 Spring Split. The 2019 League of Legends World Championship quarter-finalists finished the Spring Split last and eventually suffered elimination from the league after a failed run through LCK 2020 Summer Promotion series, where they lost to Seorabeol Gaming and SANDBOX Gaming, thus returned to Challengers Korea (CK) for the first time since CK 2018 Spring, which they won with a perfect 14-0 record.

Following their relegation, Griffin announced they're in the process of terminating contracts of each of their players and the staff members. Since the announcement, Griffin already parted ways with top laner Park "Untara" Ui-jin, mid laner Son "Ucal" Woo-hyeon and ADC Park "Viper" Do-hyeon, all of whom left the team last Sunday. Ucal and Untara have yet to join a new team, while Viper already found a new home at Hanwha Life Esports, where he will take over for Oh "Vsta" Hyo-seong as the team's starting ADC for the 2020 LCK Summer Split.

Although an expected turn of events, the departure of Tarzan and WADID is a massive announcement, since they are two were two of the biggest names on the roster and are widely regarded as two of the best players in their roles. This will add some more heat to the off-season roster changes, as there is more than a few teams that would be more than prepared to offer the duo a spot in the starting roster.

Tarzan has been with the team since he began his professional League of Legends career in March 2017. Throughout the three years, Tarzan has helped his team claw their way into LCK from CK, where Griffin won LCK 2019 Spring and Summer regular seasons and finished second at LCK 2018 Summer, 2019 LCK Spring and Summer Splits Playoffs. With Griffin, Tarzan also won KeSPA Cup 2018, Rift Rivals 2019 LCK-LPL-LMS-VCS and made a quarter-finals appearance at Worlds 2019.

Although Tarzan proved himself as one of the most promising junglers in the scene, his performances throughout the current season were far from inspiring. The 20-year-old ended the LCK Spring Split with 3.08 KDA, 70.2% KPAR, 18.8% KS and 18.1% GS, which were one of the worst marks out of all LCK junglers. Through all that, however, Tarzan has managed to maintain the status of an elite-level jungler, which suggests he will not have a difficult time finding a new home soon.

WADID, on the other side began his LoL professional career in May 2016 when he joined Rising Star Gaming. He later played for SBENU Korea, Team ROCCAT, G2 Esports, Rogue, and FlyQuest. In November 2019, FlyQuest announced WADID's departure from the team after his contract expired. In February 2020, WADID joined Riot Games as an analyst, a role he has held until April when he got picked up by Griffin as a replacement for Jeong "Irove" Sang-hyeon.

With the departure of Tarzan and WADID, Griffin are now left with only four more players on its roster in top laner Yoon "Hoya" Yong-ho and Choi "Sword" Sung-won, support Jeong "Irove" Sang-hyeon and mid/support player Yoo "Naehyun" Nae-hyun.

It remains to be seen what will happen with Griffin's LoL team, however, there is still a chance we might see Griffin return to LCK, if they manage to successfully apply for a franchise spot in for the 2021 season.

Gen.G part ways with their head coach Edgar

League of Legends coach Choi "Edgar" Woo-beom has left Gen.G in a bid to take a break from the competitive League of Legends scene, the Korean esports organisation announced today.

Edgar, who has been the head coach of Gen.G ever since he arrived at the team in May 2018 has cut ties with the Korean esports organisation this Friday and will no longer serve as the main strategist of the League of Legends Champions Korea (LCK) 2020 Spring Split regular-season champions. As revealed by Gen.G in their announcement, the decision was mutual.

"We want to thank everyone who has supported our Gen.G League of Legends team through 2020 LCK Spring Split," started the announcement.

"We are here to announce some changes to our coaching staff. Upon mutual agreement, we have terminated the contract with head coach Woo-beom" Edgar" Choi.

"From 2014 until now, head coach Edgar has led our team through numerous achievements including a World Championship. We truly appreciate all the dedication and hard work he has committed to Gen.G and LoL team."

Edgar began his coaching career with Samsung Blue in September 2013 and remain tied with the organisation through rebrandings into Samsung White and later Samsung Galaxy. With SSG, Edgar won Korea Regional Finals 2016 and made it to the grand finals of 2016 World Championship, where SSG finished second after narrowly losing to SK Telecom T1 (2-3). In the next season, Edgar led SSG to a runner-up finish at LCK 2017 Spring, a third-place finish at LCK 2017 Summer and ended up hoisting the Summoner's Cup at the 2017 World Championship. Edgar stayed with Samsung Galaxy after they sold their LCK slot to KSV eSports and later rebranded to Gen.G.

Since the rebrand, Edgar helped Gen.G win the Korea Regional Finals 2018 and led the team through 2018 World Championship, where Gen.G finished 13th-16th after failing to make it out of their group. In 2019 season, Edgar led Gen.G to a runners-up finish at KeSPA Cup and later finished LCK 2019 Spring and Summer Splits at seventh and sixth place respectively.

In the 2020 season, Gen.G finished their KeSPA run at a fifth-eighth place and in April secure the top seed in the LCK 2020 Spring Split. Despite their dominance in the regular season, where Edgar's men lost only four games out of 18 played, they ended up losing to T1 in the grand finals (0-3), thus finished the Spring Split with a silver medal, ₩60,000,000 (~ US $48,700) in tournament winnings as well as 70 Championship Points.

"We wouldn't be here without Edgar and his incredible contribution to the team," said Arnold Hur, Esports COO at Gen.G.

"We know Edgar has been thinking of taking some time off and we respect his decision, and we appreciate all the work he has put in to prepare our coaching staff to be ready for the season [LCK 2020 Summer Split]," added Mr Hur.

"We are tremendously thankful for his passionate work and all the foundation that we have built together at Gen.G."

Gen.G have not commented on any possible transfers which would see the arrival of a new head coach to the team. This means it's likely one of the three assistant coaches will take over for Edgar. Three candidates for the position of a head coach are Im "Tom" Jae-hyeon, as well as Ju "oDin" Yeong-dal, Yeo "TrAce" Chang-dong, who have been working alongside Edgar since late 2016.

LCK 2020 Summer Split will begin on Wednesday, June 17, where Gen.G will look to repeat their success from the previous split and secure their second Worlds appearance – after failing to attend the 2019 Worlds in Paris.
